Celebrating Women’s Equality Day - A Look At Forbes “50 Over 50“

“… don’t be encumbered by the inability of others to see the potential of who you are.” -Kamala Harris

Forbes released their first “50 Over 50” list in June, highlighting women who have smashed age and gender stereotypes to achieve success later in life. With a stunning response of over 10,000 nominations, Forbes further refined the list into three categories: impact, vision and investment. These thought leaders and entrepreneurs include CEOs, GMs, and the first female Vice President of the United States.

A constant thread that unites the awardees is their encounters with failures, disappointment and adversity. In the wake of COVID, we have seen women disproportionately affected, including forced retirements. This has driven many to look for new opportunities - or create opportunities for themselves.

With ageism prevalent across industries, companies do a disservice to themselves when they discount the experience, energy and emotional intelligence that older workers offer. The power of the Forbes “50 Over 50” list is that it shines a spotlight on women at their best, who show no signs of slowing down.

On Women’s Equality Day, I reflected on the World Changing Women I know. Let’s continue to share our own experiences and paths to success as we grow older, wiser – and BOLDER.
